3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use our checklist below to ensure that you have everything you need. If you have any questions or want to learn more about 3D, we invite you to visit 3D 101--our center for everything 3D. To get started with 3D, please ensure that you have:

A Display

The first--and most important--item you'll need is a 3D-ready display--whether it be a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays usually have a higher processing power than older models as they need to display one image for each eye to create a 3D effect.

A Source

While your display is ready for 3D playback, you still need a device to read 3D content (i.e., a movie or a show). This source can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3.

Content

In order to watch 3D, you will need to get some 3D content. This 3D content will come from the source mentioned above in the form of a 3D program, movie, or game. Please ensure that your 3D movies are in the Blu-ray 3D format, as this new format will provide the best 3D experience.

3D Glasses

All 3D HDTVs on the market require Active Shutter glasses to create the 3D effect. You will need to buy one pair of glasses for each viewer. Also make sure that the Active Shutter glasses you buy are compatible with your display--for example, buy the glasses from the same brand as your 3D HDTV.

HDMI Cable

To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a hgh-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation--with bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second)--will be able to carry the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

BrilliantColor™ technology
Color is one of the most important characteristics of a good projection system, and the latest BrilliantColor technology delivers stunning all-digital clarity with lifelike color, sharp graphics and outstanding video. The sophisticated 6-segment color wheel enhances the yellow color performance that is key to accurate and vivid color reproduction. With multi-color processing, colors are richer and more vibrant with exquisite and precise detail.

DLP Technology
Advanced DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology allows you to experience crystal clear, razor-sharp and lifelike images with the same DLP technology that Hollywood relies on. For fast action, the response time is also on the order of 1,000 times faster than similiar LCD based projectors. And with no air filters to clean or change, the latest generation of DLP based projectors from ViewSonic offer amongst the lowest TCO (total cost of ownership) in the industry. Check out the TCO calculators at http://www.viewsonic.com/viewschool/dlp-tco-calculator/

DLP® 3D technology
With support for TI's DLP Link technology, you'll have amazing 3D capabilities at your disposal. The projector's embedded emitter function means all that's required to unlock 3D capabilities is a pair of DLP Link compatible glasses, such as the optional ViewSonic PGD-150 active shutter glass kit.

Eco-mode saves money, power and helps the planet
With only a slight 20% decrease in brightness, the ECO-mode function can extend the life of your lamp by almost 50% and up to 6,000 hours in some cases. Other benefits of ECO-mode operation include reduced power consumption, as well as less heat and audible noise output. It's good for the environment and great for your budget. The ECO-mode function will definitely help lower your total cost of ownership (TCO).

We'll help you calculate the distance
Choose a projector that fits your space, as well as your lifestyle and needs. Simply determine your desired image size and then cross reference on this chart to locate the required projection distance. An interactive distance calculator specific to each and every ViewSonic projector is also available here to help calculate desired image size and throw distance based on your screen size.

Piece of mind with one of the best warranties in the business
Backed by our 20+ year reputation for quality and reliability, ViewSonic offers one of the industry's best overall projector warranty with 3-year limited parts, 1-year lamp and first year free Express Exchange® service. Don't be fooled by seemingly longer warranties out there in the market that exclude the more vulnerable systems and moving parts.

5BIG SCREEN XBOX 360 ON THE CHEAP
By David A. Swoboda
Folks, I have never written a review on Amazon before, but felt I really owed it to you all for this particular item. In a word, the ViewSonic PJD5122 is awesome! I've always been a fan of ViewSonic, since the early days when they made what were considered to be the best value CRT monitors for the price. This unit is no different.

Most importantly, the thing that had me waffling about buying this projector, over a truly HD model for twice the price, was whether or not it would project the Xbox 360 output in 16:9. This is important as we are also using the Xbox as a DVD movie player. Well, the projector DOES output in 16:9! This is the way we watch movies at my sisters house and I barely miss going to the theater. That was my sticking point and I wasn't sure about this until we got it and powered it up. Now, because I am a nice guy, all of you know this. Special Note: YOU WILL NEED THE XBOX 360 (S)VGA OUTPUT CABLES... they run about $40 and I would spring for the official Microsoft ones as people were having trouble with off brands, according to my research.

Now, a caveat: Some of you want 1080p. If you have a blue-ray player, or you expect to see the texture in Halo Master Chief's gloves, well, this isn't for you. I didn't care about 1080p. I am not going to start buying Blue-Ray just yet, so I am not really unhappy using anything more than 720p HD. This is not only good enough for me, it is BETTER than good enough. If you want a big screen gaming experience on a tight budget... then HOLY COW does this thing deliver. It is bright, crisp and the colors are gorgeous, even in a well lit room! I game during the day sometimes and it is nice not to have to blacken out the windows with spray paint. :)

I bought one of these about six months ago as a gift that I also would use when staying at a relatives house. They use it for movies, I use it to game when everyone goes to sleep. We even built our own screen using "Parkland Plastics Polywall". We love that set up. Anyway, I am SO HAPPY with the output of the Xbox 360 on this projector that I am going to now purchase ANOTHER ONE for my own home theater / gaming room.

Buy with confidence, people. This is among the best purchases I have ever made for home entertainment and I saved a TON.

5Great Projector especially for the price!

I bought this projector for my classroom and it has been great! It is quiet and doesn't overheat easily. I use this on and off for 6 hours a day and I haven't had any problems!

5A steal at the price
By Blaser
Initially, I was a little worried that the 800 x 600 SVGA resolution was going to be sub-par. After setting it up, the picture was terrific; probably as good as my Epson 1024 x 768 XGA projector from about 13 feet away (fills up about a 100 inch screen). I was very surprised how bright the picture was, even in a dimly lit room. Aside from resolution, some buyers are weary of the lack of inputs on the device, especially HD. Don't let that stop you from buying this, as it is an easy and cheap fix. Buy these three items VGA to RCA Component RGB Cable - 1.8M - M/M, RiteAV - 3.5mm to RCA Stereo Female Cable - 6 inch, and Component Video 3 RCA Female to Female Coupler all for a total of under $15 and you will be able to display any component HD input (it will only display in 480i thru the projector of course, but in 16:9). If you're looking for an HDMI input, a VGA to HDMI adapter will do fine. Don't be fooled by the bad reviews on these items. Most negative feedback on them is from people trying to hook up their PC to their HDMI TV (needs a converter box) but as in input, it won't be a problem. This is ideal for an Xbox, PS3, DVD player, cable box, etc. I can't think of anything bad about this product.
